Svetlana Nikitenko

| Svetlana is Ukrainian born and made her operatic debut in the Kiev State Opera Theater as Marfa in Rimsky-Korsakov's The Tsar's Bride. While still in the Conservatory of Music Ms Nikitenko was invited to sing with the Moussorgsky Theater of Opera and Ballet St Petersburg, Russia. As a result of her sparkling success she spent the next four seasons as a leading soloist there. |
Her debut was in the role of Queen of Shemaklhan in the company's new production of Le Coq D'Or by Rimsky-Korsakov. This production toured Italy, Greece, France and the United States (New York State Theater). Ms Nikitenko's other roles with the theater include Violetta in La Traviata, Gilda in Rigoletto, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Sevilla, Marfa in The Tsar's Bride, Chloe in The Queen of Spades, Emma in Khovanshchina and Xenia in Boris Godunov.
In 1992, Ms Nikitenko was a soloist in the world renowned Mariinsky Theater (Kirov Opera), where she sang Queen of the Night and Gilda. Her American credits include recitals at New Yorks Alice Tully Hall, Chicago's Ukranian Art Institute, Rocklands Opera concert Night with the Divas, and appearances as Gilda with the Natchez Opera Festival, Queen of the Night and Poppea in Handels Agrippina with the Pocket Opera (San Francisco), Marzelline in Beethovens Fidelio with the Berkeley Opera and Dew Fairy and Sand Man in Hansel and Gretel with the San Francisco Opera Center.
Ms Nikitenko was a Metropolitan Opera National Council Regional Finalist (1998). She received the Encouragement Award given by Licia Albanese Puccini International Voice Competition (1995). A participant (1998) in the San Francisco Operas Merola Program, Ms Nikitenko sang Queen of the Night at the Stern Grove Festival (San Francisco). The soprano's recent engagements include Mimi in La Boheme by Puccini, Antonia in The Tales of Hoffman by Offenbach (North Bay Opera). Angelica in Orlando by Handel (Pocket Opera), Maria in 60th Parallel by Philippe Manoury (Berkeley Symphony), the title role in the world premiere of Serpentina by John Throw (Berkeley Opera), Marfa in The Tsar's Bride by Rimsky-Korsakov (San Francisco Opera), Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute by Mozart (Opera San Jose). She performed the role of Maria (60th Parallel by Philippe Manoury) for Berkeley Symphony, under conductor Kent Nagano. She performed the role of The Diva for Teatro ZinZanni in San Francisco.
