Elspeth Franks

Mezzo-soprano

.Elspeth made her debut with Oakland Lyric Opera in the role of Octavian. She resides in San Francisco and has performed for many local opera companies in the Bay Area. A noted exponent of the “trouser role” repertoire, Elspeth has previously been heard around the Bay Area in such roles as Cherubino, Prince Orlofsky, Teseo, Nerone in “Agrippina”, Lazuli in “L’Etoile”, Nicklausse and Siebel.

.Not adverse to wearing a skirt when absolutely necessary, Elspeth’s repertoire also includes the roles of Suzuki, Mrs. Grose, Meg Page and Berta. A regular performer with such companies as Pocket Opera, West Bay Opera, and Berkeley Opera, Elspeth has also performed with the Bear Valley Music Festival, the San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival and the West Marin Music Festival. Performances further afield include Orlofsky with Rogue Opera of Oregon, and as a Young Artist with Florida Grand Opera, Elspeth was heard as Bianca in “The Rape of Lucretia”; the Aunt in “Madama Buterfly”; and Mrs. Nolan in “The Medium”; Lazuili in “L’Etoile, with Cinnabar Opera Theatre (Aug.), and Suzuki with Rimrock Opera (MT) . British-born, Elspeth studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, and at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
