MARILYN KOSINSKI, FOUNDER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR brings over 50 years of administrative experience to Oakland Lyric Opera. In the 1980's, as the owner of a small business in Oakland, she was active in community affairs and volunteered with various music and opera organizations. She was a founder (one of eight women entrepreneurs ) of the Business Women’s Expo in Oakland, providing an educational forum for discussion of pressing economic issues impacting the East Bay business environment, increasing public awareness of East Bay business and professional women and their achievements and highlighting working women’s contribution to business and the health of the community. The first of its kind in Northern California, it became an annual event for four |
years until it outgrew its purpose. In the final year which was held at the Oakland Convention Center at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Oakland, an enthusiastic 4,000 women attended.
A former president of the Piedmont Avenue Merchants Association and the Piedmont Avenue Businesswomen’s Association, she has chaired the Non-Profit Organizations Roundtable for the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. She served as a member of the Steering Committee of the East Bay Women in Business which is sponsored by the OMCC, and is a member of Opera America International.
Since 1999 she has chaired the Young Artists Scholarship Awards Committee for The East Bay Opera League. In that capacity, she organizes and runs the annual auditions for the Young Artists Scholarship Awards Competition.
